I’m a member of a local astronomy club where people come together to share their love of space. Every Friday and Saturday, I help organize lines at the observatory’s public telescope nights. While people wait, I share fun facts about the stars and other objects they can see that night. We also meet once a month to share interesting discoveries and recent astrophotography. Sometimes, we invite guest speakers, such as someone who worked on NASA’s SOFIA mission. He shared how SOFIA worked, how it was designed, the challenges of operating a telescope on an airplane, and what scientists discovered through the mission.
