Cepheid Variable Star Research

My research began with a physics question: How can Cepheid variable stars help us measure distances beyond the Milky Way? I studied the relationship between their pulsation periods and luminosities to understand how astronomers estimate distances.

With guidance from an MIT professor, I later explored a new question: Could other features of a star’s light curve help improve luminosity predictions? I analyzed astronomical data and used machine learning to explore this idea. Although my exploration was preliminary, it introduced me to new ways of studying the universe.

This experience taught me that research is not just about answering one question. Sometimes, finding an answer leads to a new question, and I learned to follow my curiosity and explore ideas beyond my original plan.
